How Your Business Can Help Keep Screven Beautiful

Helping the environment may help your business

  • You may find that installing a recycling container at your business may attract drop-in customers. Shoppers simply put recyclables in the car, along with the dry cleaning or library books.

  • An improved image for your business may make your business or product more attractive.

  • Join the Adopt-a-Highway program

Click here for an Overview of Energy Use and Energy Efficiency Opportunities for your business.

Everyone can pitch in to help Keep Screven Beautiful. There are lots of ways that local businesses can help. Here are some ideas:

Store your shredded paper in plastic bags. Then, drop those bags into your cardboard recycling container.

Don't have a cardboard recycling container???
Call the landfill (863-7480) to find out how you can get a cardboard recycling container for your business.

  • Purchase recycled products

Click here to view Office Depot's "Top 20 ways to Go Green at Work."

  • Clean up litter around the business

  • Place trash cans around to discourage litter

  • Place an ashtray at all entrances and exits to discourage cigarette litter

  • Plant flowers, shrubs and trees around the building to beautify the area.

  • Don't throw your "plastic peanuts" into the trash. Plastic loosefill packaging or "plastic peanuts" cannot be recycled, but they can be reused.

Radio Shack in Sylvania and the UPS Store at 715 Northside Drive (K-Mart Plaza) in Statesboro accepts clean packing peanuts. You can also bring your "plastic peanuts" by the Keep Screven Beautiful office. We will distribute them to local businesses.

Click here to download an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) brochure about plastic loosefill packaging.

Create a workplace recycling program:

  1. Choose a recycling coordinator

  2. Pick materials to recycle (toner, ink cartridges, cell phones, paper, aluminum cans, glass bottles, other)

  3. Decide your collection method

  4. Determine how it will be hauled away

  5. Set up recycling bins and guidelines

  6. Monitor the program

  7. Promote your program through education

  8. If you have custodial staff, what role will they play?
