Just So You’ll Know (or Tips on how you can change the World!):

  • KSB has registered in the 2009 Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR Campaign. Through this county competition, we will collect pledges from county employees and residents to not only change a light in their home to an energy-efficient one, but to also choose among other actions they can take to help save energy (such as power managing computers, choosing ENERGY STAR appliances and electronics, or properly programming their thermostats). Pledge collection started July 1, 2009 and conclude on November 30, 2009. To pledge, visit www.greencounties.org/changetheworld. Three winning counties will receive $5,000 grants each from Wal-Mart. Winning counties will be determined by the percent of the county population taking the pledge. NACo will use U.S. census population data for this calculation and a winning county in each of the following population categories will be determined: Small County (population under 50,000), Medium County (population between 50,000 and 250,000) and Large County (population over 250,000).

  • KSB has registered in the 2009 County Drive $marter Challenge. Through this county competition, counties motivate and empower county employees and residents to educate themselves on how to reduce gasoline use by keeping their cars in good working order, driving less, and driving more fuel efficiently. To pledge, visit www.drivesmarterchallenge.org. Individuals who visit the website and complete the challenge will receive coupons from ExxonMobil. ExxonMobil is providing coupons for its Mobil 1 AFE (Advanced Fuel Economy) motor oil. The coupons are received at the conclusion of the online challenge process. At the conclusion of the competition period three winning counties will receive $3,500 grants from AutoZone.

  • Regional Water Planning Meetings: This spring, the Regional Water Planning Councils, as called for by the passage of the Statewide Water Plan, began meeting to develop the Regional Water Development and Conservation Plans. The Governor announced the appointees to the Regional Councils this past winter and their first meetings were convened during the first weeks in May.

Upcoming Regional Water Planning Council meetings:
