Rivers Alive 2009
Rivers Alive 2008Keep Screven Beautiful sponsored their 2nd Annual Rivers Alive on Saturday, September 27th at Brannen's Bridges. This event began at 9am and ended with lunch and prizes at noon. We had a great turn out of 135 volunteers. We met at the park and spent the morning exploring and cleaning up the Tuckahoe Wildlife Management Area, Spring Lake Track, Burton’s Ferry Landing and the Brannen’s Bridge Park. At noon, we met back at the park and enjoyed a cookout and listened to Dr. Al Freeland tell about the Battle of Brier Creek. Several prizes were awarded to participants. Organizations participating were Sylvania Jr. Woman’s Club, Screven County 4-H, Performance Learning Center, Jesus on Wheels, Savannah River Challenge, Bay Branch Baptist Church Youth, Boy Scout Troop 391, Girl Scouts Troop #226, Cub Scout Pack # 391, and Hands on Ogeechee.
A very special “Thank you!” goes to our sponsors: Sylvania Yarn Systems, Advance Auto Parts, Georgia Southern University, The Cotton Patch, Jr Woman's Club, Papa’s Pizza, Screven Recreation Department, Ogeechee Tech, Subway, Movie Gallery, City of Sylvania Department of Public Safety and the members of KSB.
A special thanks for the aluminum cans collected during Rivers Alive, and donated to the “Cans for Cash” being sponsored by the City of Sylvania Fire Department. As you know, the cans will be sold to a recycler and all proceeds will benefit the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. We collect aluminum cans year-round for this worthy cause, however, during the month of October, we “beg” for cans. The City has an opportunity, as well as, Keep Screven Beautiful, to be presented with cash awards for participation, most cans collected and innovative ideas. Cans can be dropped at the City Fire Department any time of the day. Again, thanks and keep collecting. (Courtesy of Phyllis Butts, City of Sylvania, Department of Public Safety.)
