Scrap Tire FeesScrap tires can be dropped off at the landfill for a small fee. This fee is used to pay the tire recycling vendor to pick up and dispose of the tires.
Scrap Tire GrantScreven County residents will soon be able to dispose of scrap tires free of charge thanks to a grant available from the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Keep Screven Beautiful, along with the Screven County Commissioners and the Solid Waste Coordinator are proud to announce that Screven County has been awarded $17,000 from the EPD to help clean up scrap tires around the county.
Disposing of scrap tires properly is important because if let around, they can collect rainwater that creates an ideal habitat for rodents and mosquitoes. In the heat of summer stacked tires can also ignite, creating tire fires that are difficult to extinguish and can burn for months, generating unhealthy smoke and toxic oils.
The scrap tire efforts will be carried out in three phases:
Rules/Locations:The collection of the tires will be at the Scale House at the Screven County Landfill on Monday through Friday, November 12-16 from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Drive up to the scale window located on the right of the building. Someone will be there to take your information and direct you where to drop off the tires.
You must be a Screven County resident to participate in this project. You will be asked to provide identification and proof of residency when dropping off tires. Your name and information will be entered into a database that will help county officials manage the program. No tire dealers will be allowed to participate. No rims! You are allowed to drop off the following number of each type of tire per household: 1) Car - 8 2) Big truck - 8 3) Farm/tractor front - 8 4) Farm/tractor rear - 8 Limit = 32
