Tree Pruning Workshop

Jerry Holcomb, ISA Certified Arborist, presented a tree-pruning workshop for the City of Sylvania employees. Jerry covered basic pruning issues on young and old trees. Proper pruning provides reduced risk of breakage, better clearance for vehicles and pedestrians, improved tree health & appearance, enhanced view, increased flowering and clearance from utility lines & buildings. Jerry quoted Alex Shigo, “Pruning is one of the best things an arborist can do for a tree but one of the worst things we can do to a tree.” You wouldn’t want a bad haircut, would you?

Dogwoods Donated

Mike and Karen Smith of Longwood Plantation donated 7 dogwood trees to the City of Sylvania to be planted at the Sylvania Amphitheatre.
